ABOUT THE PROJECT GET INVOLVED

Conceived: July 12, 2009
Jump into your life's time machine and travel back to your childhood...

Some time back then someone instilled a fundamental "the sky's the limit" attitude in you. Someone planted a seed in your head and filled it with dreams and aspirations, hopes and wishes. As your life has developed from that point, many things have been built upon that solid foundation.

But can you honestly say that you could have become the successful person you are today without imagining that you could be whatever you wanted when you grew up?

This is what the Girl=Boy project is all about: Planting the seed of gender equality in the psyche of young minds.

The Girl=Boy Project was created to bridge the gender gap. We want to address the idea of potential. Yes, girls and boys are different, but if they do not feel like they can all achieve greatness, they will not achieve anything. This endeavor started in summer 2009 with a series of murals created to translate a simple message of equality to women and men, both young and old. When it comes to potential, everyone should know: Girl=Boy.

Here are some numbers illustrating why the goal of this project is so important:

70% of the world's 130 million youth not enrolled in school are girls1
15-19 age when pregancy is the leading cause of death for girls1
90% of female income is reinvested in their families1
600 million adolecent girls in the developing world2
60% of the world’s working poor are women3
10% literacy disparity between females and males4
