BRUTE LABS is a non-profit run by a small group of young volunteers using design and technology to address global challenges. Learn more at www.brutelabs.org. Why was my child's school selected for this program? BRUTE LABS received a grant from Sappi which allowed us to bring this program, originally piloted in 2007, to 15 schools throughout the Bay Area. In the future, we hope to continue expanding our efforts by making it easy for schools and communities alike to implement programs that can excite children about physical activity and teach them the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Can you tell me a bit more about the RUN! program? At the onset of the program, your child should have received a pamphlet providing detailed information about RUN!. If you did not receive this pamphlet, you can view it here. What if my child is unable to (or isn't interested in) running? The students can walk or run, as long as they work towards completing the mile on at least four separate occasions as part of the project. Remember, our primary goal is to help children get excited about being active. When does the RUN! program end? There is no concrete end date for RUN!. We'd love to see schools continue to host sessions and encourage their students to get active. As a parent, we encourage you to do the same. However, for the purposes of the contest, we ask that all four RUN! sessions be completed before students go on their 2010 Summer break. Stay tuned for announcements related to our culminating RUN! celebration! How can I help to make this program a success? As this is a non-profit effort, we rely heavily on the kind contributions of volunteers. If you're interested in helping with RUN! at your student's school, please reach out directly to your child's teacher for more input on where you can lend a hand. If you're interested in continuing the program at your child's school or in your community, feel free to contact us at run@brutelabs.org. |
